Hey gang!
I been asked to convene a conversation on something a little different. Taleef Collective are an organisation initially set up by a mentor and big brother the late Usama Canon.
It was one of the few third places in the world that had really forward thinking and cutting edge community programmes for young muslims. Drawing in an eclectic and creative crowd. That was then, and now they want to start in the UK.
They’re on tour in the UK and asked me to host a conversation with them as they begin making plans to build a centre here. I’ve had my own jaded relationship with these kind of spaces, and only agreed if I can be cut throat honest and politely inquisitive.
So it should be a fascinating dialogue around the relevance of a space like Ta’leef, do US initiatives work with us here in the UK? Do young people engage with religious leadership anymore? And what is the contemporary relevance of spaces like this? Have young muslims evolved and moved on?
Come through! Its at Yusuf Islam’s centre Maqam, click below for details.
